Sneak Peek
I am working on a series of five large prints entitled Princes of the Universe. This series examines the path to political power and the perceptions of charismatic authority.
I have selected five lyrics from the chorus of Princes of the Universe, a song by rock super group Queen, and matched each of them to an official portrait of one of five famous contemporary statesmen. Princes of the Universe is the theme song for the cult film, and subsequent television series, Highlander, where random humans are born immortal. These supernatural beings learn that they must fight each other to the death as "there can be only one". Immortals can only be killed through decapitation. Once you have beheaded your opponent, you gain all the power from them and their previous victories. This is a wonderful analogy to the no holds barred, white knuckle climb up the political ladder and the revisionist biographies created by those who reach the top.
These works will measure 27.5" x 39.25" and will be limited to an edition of three prints per image.
